Top 10 Causes of Police Officer Disqualification – Things That Can Flag Your Application:
If you want to become a police officer you must know there are some things that can eliminate you. There are many things that can be forgiven by law enforcement agencies, but there are other things that are down right deal breakers and will certainly get you eliminated from consideration.
Any of these incidents below, if surfaced during your criminal history check, will disqualify you from the selection process (No Exceptions).
1. Any felony convictions regardless of the state.
2. Marijuana illegally sold, produced, cultivated, or transported for sale.
3. Any dangerous drug or narcotic illegally sold, produced, cultivated, or transported for sale.
4. Use of any dangerous drugs or narcotics during the past (5) five years. No more than (1) one time after 21 years of age (includes steroids).
5. Use of marijuana in the past (3) three years. No more than (5) five times after 21 years of age.
6. Conviction of or adjudged to have violated traffic regulations governing the movement of vehicles with such frequency so as to indicate a disrespect for traffic law and a disregard for the safety of other persons on the highway within the past (3) three years. Acceptable frequency level to be determined by hiring panel.
7. Dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces.
8. Poor score on the following examinations: police entrance exam, polygraph test, oral board interview, psychological exam, & physical fitness test
9. Current abuse of prescription medications.
10. Driver’s license was suspended, or revoked as a direct result of negligence.
Applicants must meet prescribed vision, color vision, hearing, and/or other police academy medical standards.
