A cop’s job is one of the toughest in the world. In any case, protecting life and property, fighting all the bad guys and rescuing hostages is not an easy task. Nevertheless, in spite of all these tribulations, being a police officer can be fun and exciting. A law enforcer gets to enjoy a lucrative law enforcement salary and choose where to live and work.

Johns Creek Police Department

Johns Creek is one of the safest places to live. The city has a very low crime rate as suggested by the latest statistics from the National Council for Home Safety and Security. The crime rate stands at 0.007 per 1000 as of 2019. With a population of less than 100,000 residents, it is far much easier to maintain law and order, and restore peace.

The city has some of the best schools in the region. Interestingly, public schools in this city perform exceptionally well compared to private institutions, and are often ranked top nationally.

From what I gathered, the average pay for residents in Johns Creek is $107, 176 a year, but law enforcers earn more than $45,000 annually. This is way above what police departments in other cities and states are paying their officers.

However, it is important to note that the cost of living is somehow higher than average, but with such lucrative salaries coupled with low crime rates, any police officer will yearn to work and live in Johns Creek.

Milton, Georgia

With a population of just about 36,755 residents, Milton is another top rural-suburban city for police officers to work and live. The city is renowned not only for its affluence, but also for its low crime and unemployment rates. Apparently, only about 4% of the population is jobless and crime rates stand at 0.008 per 1,000.

In terms of security, Milton receives one of the highest funding in Georgia. On average, law enforcement salaries go as high as $64,000 in a year, with the lowest paid officer earning $41,000!

The cost of living is fair in comparison to other cities. Factors like food, healthcare and education are not a problem for many officers, but I discovered that buying a home in this city is out of reach for most law enforcers as the median price for a house stands at a staggering $527,000. This is way above the national average.

Sandy Springs, GA

Located in northern Fulton County, Sandy Springs is widely acclaimed as the perfect getaway in Georgia for tourists and vacation lovers. The city is renowned for its rich history, great food and exceptional hospitality. It also has well-defined neighborhoods and a diverse community from all walks of life. What is more amazing is that Sandy Springs has a low unemployment rate (about 4.9%), which translates to low crime rates.

The cost of living is relatively affordable, not to mention the fact that houses in Sandy Springs are exceptionally inexpensive. Notably, the median home value stands at $421,600, which is the 2nd best in the entire state of Georgia.

Police officers in Sandy Springs got a pleasant surprise when the city resolved to increase their pay by 2.8 percent in 2017. Previously, the lowest paid officer earned about $41,000, but now they are earning more than $43,000 per annum. Furthermore, commanding officers in Sandy Springs earn as much as $100,000 a year. With such huge salaries, no cop would ever want to leave the precincts of Sand Springs.

Roswell, GA

Roswell is ranked 8th by the National Council for Home Safety and Security as one of the safest cities in Georgia. The low crime rate makes it a paradisiacal destination for police officers, as there are very few felonies to deal with. In addition, the city has a low unemployment rate of 4.5%, which is also the 8th best in the state.

What is more amazing is that salaries for law enforcers are extremely lucrative. For instance, the basic salary for a Police Patrol Officer ranges between $49,900 and $58,500. This is one of the highest law enforcement salaries in the entire state of Georgia.

In addition to the high salaries, the cost of living in Roswell is comparatively affordable. Food and groceries, as well as healthcare, are much cheaper than the US national average. Moreover, the median home value ranges from $315,100. This means that it is relatively easier to buy a house in Roswell.

In terms of diversity, Roswell has a population estimated at 94,786 residents as of 2017. Out of these, 75 percent are whites, 11 percent are of African descent while 4 percent are Asians.

Alpharetta is another city that ranks highly among the best places to become a police officer. The city is relatively safe as it as one of the lowest crime rates in the state. I couldn’t believe it when I read that Alpharetta experience only 35 cases of violent crimes in 2018. Amazingly, projections suggest that this number could be lower in 2019.

When it comes to cost of living, Alpharetta has an edge over the rest of Georgia. Food and groceries are extremely affordable, while healthcare services are accessible by all and sundry. The only problem is that transportation is somehow expensive. However, as a police officer, transportation is not a major concern as the city provides these services to all law enforcers.

Salaries in Alpharetta are very competitive as residents earn a base salary of $93,614 annually. The basic salary of a law enforcer ranges from $40,000 to $49,500 depending on experience and overall qualifications.

Braselton is renowned for excellent housing, great entertainment and its impeccable education sector. The city is extremely secure and it ranks second as one of the safest places to live and work according to various surveys. Interestingly, the Braselton Police Department recorded only 12 violent crimes in 2018!

With such amazing statistics, it is not surprising that the city has experienced considerable growth in recent years. However, this has come with a few shortcomings such as traffic jams and a few cases of road incidents. Nevertheless, Braselton remains the go-to options for many officers.

The average law enforcement salary in Braselton is $58,203 per annum. Moreover, senior level officers can earn up to $71,764 in a year. This is a very attractive pay package considering the fact that the city has a very low offense rate.

Peachtree City

Peachtree City has one of the best police departments in Georgia. The department is dedicated to providing exceptional professional services to the residents using modern technology and innovative policing programs.

With this in mind, it does not come as a shocker that the cops in Peachtree City are some of the best paid in the state. On average, salaries for recruits and intermediate-level law enforcers range from $73,690 to $79,846, with senior level officers earning well over $100,000.

The cost of living in Peachtree City is favorable for any officer, as food, healthcare, and transportation are considerably affordable. What is more amazing is that the cost of buying a home in this city is lower than the rest of the cities in Georgia.

The estimated population in Peachtree is 35,240. However, the city is known for its diversity, as 76.8% are whites, 8.3% are black, and 4.7% are Asians while 7.9% are Hispanic.

With an unemployment rate of 6.7%, Bainbridge does not augur well as one of the best cities to become a police officer. However, nothing could be further from the truth. The cost of living in this city is 17.6% lower than the national average! This makes it an attractive place for all types of professionals. Furthermore, home prices are at an all-time low, with the median value standing at $124,000!

Additionally, the city has a low population of about 12,492 residents. This makes it extremely easy to manage security affairs. Nevertheless, don’t get me wrong as this does not mean lower salaries. The average pay package for law enforcers in Bainbridge, GA is $56,008 in a year. With such high salaries, any officer would want to work and live in Bainbridge.

Decatur, GA

Whenever the word “Georgia” comes up in a conversation, the City of Atlanta will always come to mind. However, in my opinion, Atlanta is not the ideal place to become a police officer. This is because the city is too crowded and it has a high crime rate compared to other towns. For this reason, I would recommend Decatur to those who want to commute to Atlanta, but enjoy the benefits of living in a quiet city.

Decatur has a robust police department with average base salaries for officers ranging from $36,000 to $58,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Nevertheless, the cost of living is relatively higher than in most cities in Georgia because of its proximity to Atlanta. Houses cost an average of $568,000, meaning that most people live in rentals. Furthermore, the unemployment rate stands at 5.5%. This means it might be harder to secure a job here compared to other states.

Dunwoody has the 7th highest median income in the entire state of Georgia. With such attractive prospects, becoming a police officer in this great city translates to higher salaries than most cities in Georgia. The average base salary for a law enforce in Dunwoody is a whopping $63,762. Moreover, senior level officers earn as much as $78,618 depending on their experience.

Besides the excellent salaries, the cost of living is seemingly favorable for most cops. Factors like healthcare, food and groceries are way below the national average. However, transportation is somehow expensive and the cost of housing is not encouraging. Nevertheless, Dunwoody remains an attractive destination for most law enforcers thanks to the low crime rates and pleasant quality of life.
