Minimum requirements to become a police officer in Wyoming are U.S. citizenship and a high school diploma or equivalent. You must also be at least 21 years of age. The requirements are established by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (POST).

Application/Hiring Process
In order to be hired candidates will have to pass an oral interview by the hiring agency and be free of physical, emotional or mental conditions that would affect performance as a police officer. To determine this, candidates will be evaluated by licensed physicians and either a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist.
A stringent background investigation is required before the applicant can be hired. The investigation will include fingerprinting, and a search of local, state and national data bases for any criminal convictions.
The background investigation also will look for any evidence of drug or alcohol abuse, will include an interview with any spouse, and a check of personal references.
Employment history, school and military records, if any, will be reviewed. The applicant’s driving record will be reviewed, as well credit and other financial history.
Police Training Academy Standards
Applicants who meet these minimum state requirements, and any addition local requirements, will receive certification from POST and go on to basic training at the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy in Douglas.
