How to become a police officer for the
Mobile Police Department?

Becoming an officer for the Mobile Police Department might sound challenging, but it all comes down to applying at the right time and focusing on doing the best job that you can.

The application process consists of 6 different steps and tests that you will have to go through. Preparing for all of them will bring you the results and success you expect. With that in mind, here are some tips on how you can become a Mobile Police Department officer.

Ability test

This test was created with the idea of seeing the amount of endurance and strength a police officer has. Some daily tasks will require a lot of agility, so it’s important to have this type of test.

The physical fitness test will cover a 1.5 mile run you have to do in 15.28 minutes, 22 push ups in a minute and 25 sit ups in a minute. The physical ability test will focus on performing exercises in an obstacle course.

You will need to push a car for 15 feet, then you will have to undergo window climbing, chain link fence climbing, walking on a 15-foot balanced beam and moving a mannequin of around 165 pounds for 15 feet. The course needs to be completed in 90 seconds.

Apply at the Mobile County Personnel Board

You will first need to complete the ability test, then you will have to apply with the MCPB in order to become a police officer. Create an account, browse the job opportunities, select the Police Officer job and then apply to this job.

You will be required to add a copy of the driver license and a verification of successful completion. In case you have a college degree you can attach a transcript so you can get credit for it. You can also apply in person if you don’t want to apply online.

Complete the Mobile Police Department application and background information packet

The idea here is to share information about you. The document needs to include the birth certificate and driver’s license, high school diploma or college diploma, DD-214 if you were a part of the military and a social security card. If you had any traffic tickets for the past 3 years, you need to acquire a case action summary from the court. The same thing happens if you were arrested at any given age.
The basic abilities test

This test is needed if you don’t have an associate degree from an accredited university or college. Complete and then submit the Work Keys Exam APOSTC Bat registration. Submit the registration form and then wait for an email reply. The test scores are shared with the training unit and the internal affairs unit.

Background investigation

In order to get in the Mobile Police Department you also need to go through multiple background tests. These include a polygraph test, an interview, fingerprint, drug screening and a psychological test.

Approval of chief

Here you have the final step. If the Chief of Police approves you, then you will receive an appointment date. After you get that, you need to complete the APOST application and then you start the Police Academy.

Becoming a part of the Mobile Police Department is not always going to be easy, but it does bring in some amazing benefits and results.

With the right amount of patience you can easily make it work, all you need is commitment and focus to do the right thing. Once you do that, you will find results to be great!
