Portland Police Requirements & Qualifications
- 20.5 years of age or older
- You must be a US citizen within one year of being hired.
- You must have a high school diploma or GED
- Must not have been discharged from military service under less than honorable conditions
- Must pass all phases of the hiring process
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Have a history or pattern of poor decision making
- Must have and be able to maintain the legal right to possess a firearm

There are multiple steps you have to go through in order to enroll in the Portland Police Department Officer. But once you do that, it will be an amazing experience.
At first, you need to fulfill all the legal requirements if you want to become a police officer for the department. That means getting your GED or high school diploma and at least 60 college credits. You can also have 2 years of duty in the military, 2 years of employment as a cadet and so on.
Once that is dealt with, you must complete an online application to become a police officer. Then you will have the Frontline National written exam suitable for the entry level law enforcement.
You will then have to fulfill an oral board interview.
It’s also mandatory to undergo a psychological screening done by a professional, as that’s something you need to take into consideration.
You need to pass the physical abilities test. Once you enroll into the application, you will receive a file with all the requirements. Passing all of those is very important if you want to complete everything properly and with great success.
Moreover, you will be subjected to a background investigation. If you want to be Portland Police Department Officer it’s important to have a clear record. There’s also another in-depth psychological evaluation coming after the background investigation.
Once all of this is done, you will need to pass the mandatory medical exam. They will also do a drug test, which is something that you have to pass in order to be eligible.
