Sheriff Deputy Police Exam Tips

Whether you want to work for the county or the city as a police officer, there is one prerequisite you must complete first, the Sheriff Deputy Entrance Exam.  The sheriff department’s written exam is no different from the city’s exam. Sheriff deputies are responsible for county areas, but they also assist the city as well. That’s why the selection process is similar. There have been times where a county officer would transfer to the city department without a hitch. The transition is not hard because they are a mirror image of each other.

You will be required to pass the physical assessment test, polygraph, background check, oral board interview, and psychological evaluation test just like any other department.

Here are some of the components inside the sheriff department examination you’ll have to pass with a satisfactory score:

  • Judgment and reasoning
  • Directional map reading
  • Reading comprehension
  • Memory recall
  • Math
  • & more

There are some things you can do to prepare yourself for the Sheriff exam. One such thing is to improve your memory as this is critical if you want to go into law enforcement. Here’s an easy way to start improving your memory ASAP.

You can start by being a little more observant everywhere you go. For instance if you are at the park, select one person from a group of four and remember everything about that person from head to toe. I’m talking about physical description and the whole nine.

Try to time yourself around 40 seconds and then turn away from that person and have a friend quiz you for accuracy. You can actually do this exercise anywhere and with anything. You even do it while driving just simply remember the description of every car that pass you on the road and quiz yourself for accuracy. You will be surprise how well your memory recall improves after doing it for a couple of weeks.

I hope this helps as you prepare for the Sheriff Deputy Exam.
