How to become a police officer for the Albuquerque Police Department?
Joining the Albuquerque Police Department is a great opportunity, but it also comes with its fair share of challenges. You need to know what you must do in order to attend the Albuquerque Police Department and what steps you need to go through to do so. The Albuquerque Police Department was created in 1898 and it has around 1100 police officers. They serve 188 square miles and a population of more than 546000 people. Here are the requirements you need to complete in order to become an officer at the department.
Meet the minimal requirements
There are quite a lot of minimal requirements. That includes being over 21, no misdemeanors in the past 3 years, a valid driver license, no convictions, no DWI convictions in the past 5 years or no domestic violence convictions. You also need to have at least 60 credit hours from an university or college.
Submit the interest card
The interest card needs to be completed at the Albuquerque Police Department and then you submit it at the recruiting unit. They will contact you with the next step, if you fulfill all the requirements.
Complete a 3-day test
During the first day you will have a police entry exam and a personal integrity questionnaire. The second day will cover a physical fitness test, whereas the third day has a written psychological exam.
Going through a background investigation
One thing to note is that after you pass the test, the Albuquerque Police Department will undergo a background investigation to see if you are fit for this job or not. That might not seem like a lot, but it’s extremely important for the process.
Taking the psychological interview and polygraph examination
All those persons that get up to this point need to undertake the psychological interview or the polygraph expansion. That’s certainly something to focus on, as it will help you pursue your career onward. Once that is done, you will have an interview with the chief’s selection board.
Going through medical examinations
These are designed to help figure out if you are fit for a law enforcement job or not. They include drug tests, medical, hearing and vision tests. You have to check them out, and the results themselves can be really impressive.
Attending the police academy
In order to complete the training, you have to go through the Albuquerque Police Academy. After you complete it you can get a job at the Albuquerque Police Department.
